If you were near 15th and Peoria Saturday afternoon, you probably saw quite a scene.
Tulsa police had reports that a man had boarded a Tulsa Transit bus with a gun. Witnesses saw the guy put what looked like a long rifle in his coat and climb aboard.
They called cops, concerned for passengers safety.
From there, TPD contacted MTTA. Their driver stopped at the intersection of 15th - a.k.a. Cherry St - and Peoria.
Police blocked all lanes of the intersection and treated the situation delicately. There were about 30 people on board. They got passengers off the bus one-by-one until they questioned the man who matched witness descriptions.
It turns out, the guy had just purchased and air rifle from a second hand store. He then put it in his coat and boarded, unaware of the concerns he caused.
TPD Cpl. George Frye says there's no permit needed to carry or poses an air rifle, and it's only illegal to fire one in the city.
There were no laws broken, so no arrest was made. The man's name has not been released.
TPD suggests that if anyone buys a ball-bearing or air gun second hand - without wrapping - to have it packaged in a way that would not alarm the general public.
Frye went on to say citizens did the right thing in reporting suspicious activity. There were no injuries and everyone was released. The situation only lasted about 15 minutes.
