Foreclosed Homes Get a Second Chance

Posted: Updated:

Foreclosed homes are getting a new lease on life. Wells Fargo company is donating several abandoned homes to non profit organizations in Tulsa. Channel 8's Kim Jackson explains.

Many of the homes have been boarded up, but now they are the keys to someone's freedom.

Fitting Back In is a place where ex-offenders come--to learn things like anger management--and how to fit back in.

"I am here because of an anger management problem," admitted Aphonso Golden. He has two felony conviction and completed a stint in prison. He knows the struggle of even finding a place to live, on the outside.

"It's not even not even Tulsa public housing it is just regular housing, because they ask you these questions on application, have you ever been convicted of a felony? And you say oh no.. you know.. oh no," he said, as he his homeless right now.

But Fitting Back In, just received three foreclosed homes, from Wells Fargo.

"It is something that we have been wanting for the last seven years of our program to start a housing program for ex offenders and we are so excited that Wells Fargo saw us fit and saw us as a good non profit to donate this house to," said Billon Constable, executive director for Fitting Back In.

Wells Fargo donated 18 homes to 7 non profit agencies.

"We are going to use these houses to help ex offenders after re-integration to fit back into society somewhere to live, somewhere nice to live," said Constable.

Here's there plan, a family will buy one house, with a no interest loan. Three women will live in one home for a year, another for men. Alphonso just needs a place to call home.

"I want people to know that I am a good person. I strive hard. I am a hard worker I am just like anyone in society, just who made wrong decision and wrong choices," he said.

Each home comes with 75-hundred dollars for improvement.. just like the people who will live here.. work in progress.

The first residents to move in here have been chosen. They'll get their keys to move in, in April.
