Man Pleads Not Guilty In Wife's Drug Overdose Death

A Delaware County man entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in his wife's drug overdose death.

Court records show 31-year-old Charley Sequoyah Guess of Kansas, Oklahoma, made the plea at his arraignment Wednesday morning.

He was charged in September with first-degree murder and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in the death of his wife, Gidget Guess, who died in December 2009.

The state medical examiner ruled Gidget Guess died from heart disease, worsened by methamphetamine use.

But police say Charley Guess -- who was arrested on drug charges in July -- told a fellow inmate he had given his ailing wife meth in hopes it would kill her. They say he also told the inmate he delayed making a phone call to paramedics after she fell unconscious.

Guess has been held on one million dollars bond ever since those charges were filed. His next scheduled court appearance was set for July 30th.
