Tulsa -
Oklahomans better "Drop,
Cover, and Hold On" next Tuesday at 10:15 a.m.
Don't worry, it's not a early prediction for an earthquake next week -- it's part of a multi-state drill called the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, put together by FEMA and the U.S. Geological Survey.
If you were one of the many people who couldn't remember earthquakes in Oklahoma, last year's tectonic activity likely changed your mind, rattling both nerves and buildings.
The Sooner State was shaken by it's strongest earthquake on record -- a 5.6 magnitude quake -- on Nov. 5th.
That followed a 4.7 quake earlier in the day.
So what do you do during the Great ShakeOut?
Easy, it's all in their motto -- "Drop, Cover and Hold On."
DROP to the floor, take
COVER under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture and HOLD ON until the shaking stops.
"Individuals, families, businesses and government organizations
- everyone has a role in disaster preparedness," said FEMA Region 6
Deputy Regional Administrator Tony Robinson.
"When you participate
in a drill, put together a supply kit, have a preparedness plan and
stay informed, you are taking steps to protect yourself and loved
ones in the event of a disaster."
More than 2 million people are already registered for the event, now in its second year, next Tuesday.
