City of Bartlesville Gets Sued by Newspaper

Posted: Updated:

A Bartlesville newspaper is suing the city of Bartlesville and a prosecutor seeking a videotape that the newspaper believes shows two police officers allegedly assaulting a handcuffed man at a hospital.

The Examiner-Enterprise reports that it filed the lawsuit Friday against the city and District Attorney Kevin Buchanan.

City attorney Jerry Maddux said he hasn't seen the lawsuit and declined comment. Buchanan did not immediately return a telephone call.

The lawsuit alleges the video is in the public interest and that it shows at least part of an alleged incident involving the officers and a combative patient at Jane Phillips Medical Center.

The lawsuit says Buchanan showed the video to members of the Fraternal Order of Police and that it should be released to the newspaper and the public.
