Posted: Updated:

Sophomore guard Jordan Clarkson powered a spirited effort from the Tulsa men's basketball team, as the Golden Hurricane defeated Marshall 79-70 in front of a crowd of 4,751 Saturday night inside Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Tulsa (14-9, 7-2 Conference USA) won its seventh-straight game and moved into sole possession of second place in the C-USA standings. TU now sits a half-game behind first-place Southern Miss (7-1) and a half-game clear of Memphis (6-2).

Clarkson led the way with 21 points for TU on 7-of-11 shooting. This was Clarkson's 20th-straight game scoring in double figures.

He was aided by 30 combined points from senior center Steven Idlet and sophomore guard Tim Peete off the bench. Idlet was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, while Peete hit 5-of-6 shots, including both three-point attempts.

Sophomore forward Kodi Maduka scored nine points and senior forward D.J. Magley hauled in nine rebounds.

The Golden Hurricane will return to action with an 8 p.m. meeting Feb. 8 at UTEP. The matchup with the Miners will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
