Oklahomans Encouraged To Join ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

Tulsa, OK -

Oklahomans are urged to join in the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.

This annual event is designed to prepare residents for an earthquake.

During an earthquake, follow these three steps:
• DROP to the ground,
• Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
• HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops.

The drill will start at 10:15 A.M. when the National Weather Service will send a tone alert across NOAA weather radios.

Another essential part of earthquake safety is to put together a supply kit and have a plan in case of emergency.

The event is organized by the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium, FEMA and the U.S. Geological Survey.
