OHP: High Speed Chase Ends In Arrest Of Burglars

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say a high speed pursuit ended with an arrest Monday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., troopers chased a car on the Creek Turnpike at 71st St. near Broken Arrow.

The Pontiac Grand Am sped northbound over 100 miles per hour.  Troopers say during the chase, the car went into oncoming traffic.

Just north of the Port of Catoosa on Highway 266, the trooper performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, also known as a PIT maneuver, to cause the car to spin out and come to a stop.

A male driver and a female passenger bailed out of the car and tried to run, but state troopers immediately caught them.

The two were suspected to be suspects in a string of Tulsa home invasions and burglaries.  Tulsa Police officers brought the burglary victims to the scene of the chase, and the victims identified the two as the suspects.  Police say the man and woman were John Brown, 23, and Amber Howard, 24.

Tulsa officers had been involved in the pursuit earlier, but lost sight of the car and called off the chase.  A state trooper had spotted the car on the turnpike a few minutes later.

In addition to complaints of burglary, Brown and Howard will be charged with open traffic charges in Wagoner and Rogers Counties, including reckless driving, failing to pay a toll and felony eluding police officers.
