Country music superstar Garth Brooks is celebrating a big birthday.

The star who now calls Owasso home turns the big 5-0 Tuesday. He was born just a short distance away in Tulsa and spent most of his growing up in Yukon, a suburb of Oklahoma City.

Brooks is the most decorated and highest-selling country music star in history, having sold more than 128-million copies -- second only to Elvis Presley on the all-time list of U.S. solo artists.

Among a slew of others, he has won two Grammy Awards, 16 American Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, 10 People's Choice Awards, 18 Academy of Country Music Awards and 24 Billboard Music Awards.

Brooks retired from recording and performing in 2001, but announced his return two years ago, signing on for a five-year performance deal with Encore Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Recently, Garth was in the news for a lawsuit in which he sued his hometown hospital, Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon, over claims that the hospital promised to name a new women's health center after his mother.

Late last month, a Rogers County jury sided with the country star, awarding him his 500-thousand dollar donation back, in addition to another $500,000 in punitive damages.
