It's a company that's smoking the competition. 5 years ago Melton Truck Lines took a turn for better health with routine health screenings and more.
"And it caused all kinds of people to stop smoking. I mean literally people laid down their cigarette and said I'm done" says Angela Buchanan, with Melton Truck Lines.
Commercials by the state health department are also calling attention to the problem of smoking.
"Thanks for calling big tobacco. Hi I received this bill saying I owe 548 dollars for smoking related expenses."
At Melton, employees choose their level of health coverage with I Care, I Care Plus, and I Don't Care. The savings are from 20 to 50 percent in premiums.
"And then if your numbers fall within a certain category and you address your health concerns you can save even more in your health premiums."
In the state of Oklahoma, smoking costs billions in lost productivity and medical expenses. It's something companies just can't afford.
That's why Melton has full on site gyms and programs that promote optimal health.
"In the beginning it was resistance I didn't want to, comfort zone I guess. Smoke a cigarette eating the junk food and healthy food and now it's second nature now," says employee Michael Blackmon.
Blackmon is now more than 5 years smoke free, and the company hopes more employees will join him, meaning no more excuses and no more butts.
