Reality Show Duggar Family Supports Santorum, Stops in Tulsa

Posted: Updated:

There were some big names and families in the audience at ORU's Mabee Center to see Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum speak. The Duggar family, stars of the hit reality series "19 Kids and Counting," are big Rick Santorum fans and attended both rallies in Oklahoma.

After the event at Oral Roberts University the famous family hit a Cherry Street establishment, Hideaway Pizza.

They walked in like rock stars, doors opening for them and film crew following. Total number?

"I still haven't got a final count on that," says waiter Matt Highfell. "I know at least 19 and we are still counting."

The Duggars have come out in full support of Rick Santorum for president.

"It was very easy because there's only one man that stands in the same place we do as far as family values and even with the economy," says Joshua Duggar, one of the "19 Kids and Counting."

Just a few booths down a slightly smaller family, the Armstrongs from Tulsa. They thought they were just dining out on a Thursday night when they saw this in front of hideaway pizza.

"We saw that a bus for Rick Santorum was there," says David Armstrong a customer of Hideaway Pizza.

He says they were expecting to see the presidential hopeful, they were shocked to see the famous family.

"This is actually our family bus," says Duggar, who adds the candidate himself has never ridden on the Santorum express.

Joshua calls the candidate by his first name, but says it's a little harder for Santorum to get it straight.

"Rick Santorum can't quite get all of our first names," says Duggar. "I have to say I don't have all of their family members down quite right either."

The family pre-ordered 15 pizzas just to start with and had waiter Highfell all to themselves.

"Great family, they are very friendly, very polite," says Highfell.

Armstrong says for now he'll stick to ordering just the one pizza.

"It would certainly hurt my wallet, but no I could not imagine feeding that many people," says Armstrong.

"I'm just hoping I don't have to clean up the tables afterwards," says a tired Highfell.

Duggar says they do they all vote for the same candidate. The family will continue to campaign with Santorum up until the election.

They have campaigned for the republican candidate in several others states, including Iowa and South Carolina.
