ORU Men Clinch Share of Summit League Title With Win Over W. Illinois

Posted: Updated:

Oral Roberts (23-5, 15-1) clinched at least a share of the Summit League regular season championship with a 61-51 victory over Western Illinois (13-11, 7-8), Saturday night at the Mabee Center as part of the school's Homecoming celebration.

The victory also extends the Golden Eagles' home winning streak to 22 games, the third longest in the country, and matches the most regular season wins under Coach Scott Sutton, tying the 23-6 mark during the 2004-05 regular season.

Dominique Morrison exploded in the second half, finishing with 17 points, 13 of which came in the second half. His personal streak of double digit scoring efforts extends to 20 consecutive games.

Roderick Pearson and Steven Roundtree, who had a thunderous put-back dunk in the second half, each scored 12 points, while Michael Craion had 11. Roundtree also led the team with seven rebounds as ORU held a 31-22 advantage on the boards.

Ceola Clark was the lone player in double figures for WIU, scoring 21 points in the second half, most coming off his five 3-pointers. Tommie Tyler and Terell Parks had nine and eight points, respectively.

With the BracketBuster game against Akron awaiting them at the end of the week, ORU will travel to IPFW for a Wednesday contest. That game will tip off at 6 p.m. central time.
