Norman -
The full 2012 football schedule for the Oklahoma Sooners has been released and it includes a trip to El Paso to begin the season.
The Sooners will play the Miners September first in El Paso. Oklahoma leads the all-time series 2-0, including a 68-0 rout in 2002.
A week later, OU's home opener will welcome Florida A&M to Norman for the first meeting between the two schools. After an open date, the Sooners begin conference play September 22nd at home against Kansas State.
Another open date will be followed by nine straight weeks of football, beginning with a road trip to Lubbock to play Texas Tech, a team the Sooners haven't beaten on the road since 2003.
The annual Red River Rivalry is a week later, October 13th against the Texas Longhorns. The Sooners then host Kansas on October 20th before going out of conference at home against Notre Dame on the 27th.
November begins with a trip to Ames, Iowa against Iowa State, followed by a home game against Baylor. Oklahoma then plays at new Big 12 teams West Virginia (11/17) and TCU (12/1) with the annual Bedlam game sandwiched in between in Norman on November 24th.
Game times will be determined at a later date.
Head coach Bob Stoops says he's looking forward to another challenging season.
"We have a philosophy of playing a challenging schedule on a yearly basis that puts our team in the best possible situation to make a run at a championship," Stoops said.
