Catoosa Blue Whale Vandalized

The Blue Whale of Catoosa is vandalized with a magic marker on Saturday.

KTUL.com has learned that a vandal has written on fifteen different places on the exterior of the whale.

Jennifer Edwards of the Catoosa Arts and Tourism Society has released the following statement: "Although the vandalism done to me was not with paint, vulgar or costly.  The bigger issue is, the act of vandalism, not the content or application.  Mistreatment to any property other than your own is disrespectful.  I'm simply disappointed that this type of behavior is measured. It is not levels on a scale of 1 to 10, it is all bad form.  I forgive the vandals, I just wish there was nothing to forgive them for.  Please note that right after Christmas we had to take our donation box down because vandals kept breaking into it and damaging it. So not only do we have to contend with the cost of the damage, but lost donation revenue since Christmas."

The Blue Whale of Catoosa is a waterfront structure, located just east of the town of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and it has become one of the most recognizable attractions on old Route 66.

Police are not releasing photos of the graffiti because of the sensitive nature of the information contained in the graffiti.
