You're out of work and finally landed that job interview. Here's a list of the worst mistakes a candidate can make, according to a Careerbuilder survey of employers and hiring managers:

  • Answering or texting on phones. It may seem like an obvious interview mistake, but employers say it does happen.
  • Appearing disinterested.
  • Not dressing for the occasion.
  • Coming across as arrogant or know-it-all.
  • Talk negatively about previous or current employers is a turn off for hiring managers.
  • Chewing gum.
  • Showing up late.

On the list of things you should do, always know a bit about the company you're applying to before the interview. You can do this by doing a little online research about the company culture and products.

Careerbuilder also suggests preparing special anecdotes to highlight parts of your resume. But most of all, the secret to a good interview is having a good attitude.
