EMU's Webber Shuts Down Golden Eagles

Posted: Updated:

TULSA -- After an offensive explosion on Friday that resulted in 11 runs on 12 hits, it wasn't until the seventh inning that ORU (1-5) finally registered a hit on Saturday as the Golden Eagles dropped the second game of the three-game series 3-1 to Eastern Michigan (1-3).

Kurt Giller took the loss for ORU, giving up all three runs in 4.0 innings, walking four and striking out four. Mike Torrence came in and pitched the final five innings for ORU, striking out two and giving up three hits. Kevin Cho and Jared Schlehuber each had a hit, while Cho came around to score the only run of the game for the Golden Eagles.

Steve Weber got the victory for EMU, giving up a single run, walking one and striking out four in 6.2 innings of work before giving way to Neil Butara, who closed the game and got the save.

Neither team was able to plate a run until the fifth inning, when a pair of ORU errors jump-started the EMU offense. A walk to the next batter loaded the bases and back-to-back singles by Ben Magsig and Lee Longo plated the three Eagle runs.

Torrence came into the game and was able to stop the bleeding, getting ORU out of the inning without giving up another hit.

Cho tried to get ORU back into the game with a leadoff single in the seventh before Schlehuber moved him up a base with a single two batters later. A wild pitch put him on third and with only one out in the inning, and Brandon King did his job with a sacrifice fly to left to score Cho, scoring what would be the only ORU run of the game, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Both relief pitchers continued to dominate, giving EMU its first win of the season, splitting the series at one game each.

The third and final game of the three-game series between ORU and Eastern Michigan will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday from J.L. Johnson Stadium.
