ORU Baseball Routs Eastern Michigan For First Series Win

Posted: Updated:

The Golden Eagles finish off the three game series against Eastern Michigan with a dominant 14-1 win.

Dan Martony (1-0) got the win for the Golden Eagles, pitching four scoreless innings in relief of starter Alex Gonzalez who left the game in the second inning with a sore back.

Nate Goro continued his hot hitting, going 3-5 with four RBI and one walk. He is now batting .300 and leads the team with nine RBI.

Cam Schiller pulled himself out of his hitting slump, going 2-4 while chipping in three RBI of his own.

Eastern Michigan (1-4) was led offensively by Tucker Rubino, who picked up the teams only RBI in the eight- inning. Starter Brian Valente lasted 1.2 innings, giving up two runs and four walks. Ryan Lavoie relieved Valente in the second, going three innings with four earned runs.

The Golden Eagles were held without a run in the first inning, but scored in every other inning after that, starting in the second-inning when back-to-back walks by Brandon King and Goro gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Kevin Cho knocked in Schiller in the third-inning with an RBI double followed by a two-run double by Schiller in the fourth-inning to give ORU a 5-0 lead.

Cho tripled in the third and scored off a Bennett Pickar single in the fifth-inning to make it 6-0, and Goro scored in the sixth-inning off a failed pick-off attempt to push the ORU lead to 7-0.

The Game was already well out of reach for Eastern Michigan when ORU put together a five-run seventh-inning.

Goro's two-run double in the eighth would finish the scoring and seal the win for the Golden Eagles.

ORU is now 2-2 during the nine game homestand, and will host Central Arkansas for one game on Tuesday, February 28 at 3 p.m.
