Perrish Cox Acquitted In Sex Assault Trial

Posted: Updated:

A jury in Colorado has acquitted former Oklahoma State and Denver Broncos defensive back Perrish Cox on charges of sexual assault.

The jury returned the verdict Friday in the case of Cox, who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in September 2010. The woman claimed she thought she had been drugged during a night of partying because she couldn't remember much about what happened.

The accuser became pregnant and prosecutors said DNA proved Cox was the child's father. Cox denied having sex with the woman and his attorney disputed the DNA results, saying they had been contaminated.

Had he been convicted, Cox could have spent up to life in prison.

Cox played at Oklahoma State from 2006 to 2009 and finished as the school's all-time leader in career kickoff return yards and kickoff return touchdowns, with four.

He was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and played in 15 games as a rookie, making 58 tackles, forcing two fumbles and intercepting a pass.

He was released by the Broncos in September.
