Jarvis Payne, Sr. has been hired as the new head football coach at McLain High School.

Tulsa Public Schools made the announcement Thursday morning. Payne, who has been an assistant at McLain since 2003, was head coach of the junior varsity since 2009 and has also coached the team's freshman squad.

Previously, Payne coached at the former Monroe Middle School, leading his teams there to two undefeated seasons.

"Jarvis Payne is a great fit for the McLain head football coaching position," says interim Tulsa Public Schools athletic director Gil Cloud. "He will build on the solid foundation that was set by our former head coach Dan Bitson."

Bitson spent three seasons at McLain, but resigned in January to take a position on the coaching staff at the University of Tulsa.

McLain went 6-and-4 last season, falling to Hilldale in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
