OSU Advances In WNIT

Oklahoma State's women's basketball team knocked off Wichita State, 63-44, on Sunday in front of 1,482 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena to advance to the WNIT's round of 16.

With the win, OSU improved to 18-12 on the year and is now 7-0 all time in WNIT home games. The victory also marked just the second time the Cowgirls have advanced beyond the second round. They reached the WNIT quarterfinals in 2001.

Wichita State fell to 20-13 with the loss.

After the Shockers took their lone lead of the game on a jumper at the 8:39 mark, OSU reeled off 16 of the game's the game's next 18 points to lead by 13 with three minutes left in the half. Behind a strong half from junior Toni Young, who had 10 points and seven rebounds in the period, the Cowgirls led 31-18 at the break.

OSU extended the lead to 19 while holding WSU scoreless over the first four-plus minutes of the second half before the Shockers strung together a 10-0 run to get within 37-27 at the 14-minunte mark.

WSU got within four at 42-38 before the Cowgirls got a 3-pointer from freshman Liz Donohoe and a jumper from sophomore Tiffany Bias as part of an 11-2 run to halt the rally.

Bias led all scorers with 21 points and dished out a game-high five assists, while Young logged her 21st career double-double. The Del City, Okla., native finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Her rebound total put her over 700 for her career and made her just the sixth player in school history to record 1,000 points and 700 boards. 




Donohoe added her fourth career double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Jazimen Gordon led the Shockers with 10 points.

The Cowgirls will host Missouri State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
