Littell Hires UMKC's Whitaker To Replace Serna

STILLWATER, Okla. - The women's head basketball coach at Missouri-Kansas City has resigned to become associate head coach for the Oklahoma State women's basketball program.

OSU head coach Jim Littell fills the position previously held by Miranda Serna. She along with previous head coach Kurt Budke died in a plane crash late last year.

Candace Whitaker announced her departure in a statement on Monday. Missouri-Kansas City Athletic Director Tim Hall credited Whitaker with building the program and leaving it in shape for
continued success.

Whitaker, a former Texas Tech women's basketball standout, led the Kangaroos to a 22-12 season and their first appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

Missouri-Kansas City also placed fourth in the Summit League and went to the Women's Basketball Invitational in the 2009-2010 season, marking the team's first-ever postseason tournament berth.

Hall says Bruce Erickson will serve as interim head coach for the Kangaroos while a national search for a permanent head coach gets under way.
