Manning Building Tulsa Staff Already

Posted: Updated:

New Tulsa Head Basketball Coach Danny Manning is still with the Kansas Jayhawks as they prepare to face Ohio State in the Final Four.  But Coach Manning is already building his Golden Hurricane staff.

Brett Ballard will be one of his first assistants at TU.  Ballard has spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Baker University in Kansas.  The Wildcats went 33-30 under Baker.  This past season he led them to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship game for the first time in 15-years.  The Cats also made it to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 1996.

In a release from Baker University Ballard talked about his time with Baker.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time coaching the Baker University men's basketball team," Ballard said. "I was fortunate to work with a group of dedicated players, committed to the classroom and basketball court. I will always be grateful for President Pat Long and Athletic Director Theresa Yetmar having the confidence to give me my first head coaching opportunity in college basketball. The support I received from the administration, alumni and the community was amazing. Seeing all the orange at the national tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City is something I will never forget. Baker University is an amazing place and I am very humbled to have been their head coach."

I spoke with Booker T. Washington Boys head coach Shea Seals Thursday afternoon and the former TU star said he would love to join Manning's staff.  He said it would be a dream come true to return to Tulsa and help restore the program.  Seals also advance his career to the next level.
