Suspected Scam Artist Faces Charges in Another County

Kay County, OK -

A Collinsville man faced additional charged of exploitation Wednesday.

Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak announced Wednesday that 54-year-old Marshall Virden of Collinsville has been charged in Kay County with exploitation of the elderly by trick or deception.

Virden was accused of manipulating an elderly Ponca City couple into giving him more than $23,000.

Virden, a former Oklahoma insurance agent, had been charged with exploitation of the elderly last week in Wagoner County.

U.S. Marshals located and arrested Virden in Pinellas County, Florida, on March 28th, and Oklahoma prosecutors are awaiting his extradition to Oklahoma.

Commissioner Doak announced Wednesday that Virden conducted a number of seminars between 2007 and 2011 encouraging seniors to invest in gold or precious metals that were not actually there.

Doak urges anyone who may have had contact with Virden or attended any of Virden's seminars within that time frame to contact the Oklahoma Insurance Department so they can verify the investment.

"We're very protective of Oklahoma seniors," Doak said, "and we'd like to make sure that those investments are safe."
