Lawton -
On the day of Oklahoma's spring game, the Sooners have learned that they've picked up a verbal commitment from a bigtime in-state recruit.
According to Sooners Illustrated, D.J. Ward, a four-star prospect at defensive end, gave his verbal commitment to OU on Saturday. The 6'4", 235-pounder from Lawton High is ranked by Scout.com as the fourth best defensive end prospect in the nation.
As a junior, Ward had 75 tackles and 12 sacks for the Wolverines while earning first-team all-district honors.
Ward is the fourth player of the 2013 recruiting class to give the Sooners a verbal commitment.
Verbal commitments are non-binding. The first day players can sign letters of intent is February 6, 2013.
