Church Service To Be Held Inside Glenpool Bar

Posted: Updated:

Can you imagine having to show your ID at the door to get into church?

Well, that will be the case in about a week in Glenpool.

Tulsa's Celebration Church, 4727 S. Memorial, plans to stream its Sunday service live to the Drunk Monkey Tavern in Glenpool.

That's right, a bar.

Pastor Eastman Curtis tells ktul.com he's preached many times about getting God's message out there and says this is a unique way to reach those who might never come to a traditional church.

"We really want to reach people that are nervous about coming through the threshold of a church door," says Curtis. "I gotta tell you there's a lot of folks that think if they walk through a church that they're automatically going to combust into flames." He adds, "We want people to see they're accepted wherever they are by God. He wants to meet them where they are, whether that's in a church or whether that's in a bar."

After coming up with the idea, he told us church members prayed a lot before deciding to do it. But he jokes, "If it's successful, God gave {the idea} to me and if it's not, it was just a bad idea."

The special church service simulcast will take place Sunday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Drunk Monkey Tavern, 13837 S. Casper St. in Glenpool.

As you might imagine, you have to be 21 or older to attend.
