OSU Baseball Gets Series Win vs. Alcorn St.

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma State collected 16 hits en route to a series-clinching 11-2 win over Alcorn State Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

Six different Cowboys collected multiple hits in the contest as 25th-ranked OSU improved to 31-19 and won for the 23rd time in 27 games at home this season.

Jared Womack led the OSU offense with three RBIs, while Trey Whaley had three hits, and Chase Stevens picked up his seventh win of the season in relief of Vince Wheeland.

Stevens came on with one out in the fourth and did not allow a run over the final 5.2 innings to improve to 7-4. He allowed only two hits and racked up 10 strikeouts.

Alcorn State (17-34) took the game's first lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by Gabriel Lebron, but OSU quickly erased its deficit in the bottom of the inning on Gage Green's two-out, two-RBI triple that made the score 2-1.

The Braves tied the score in the fourth. Eduardo Gonzalez led off with a single and after a foul out, back-to-back singles by Jann Butler and Angel Rosa made the score 2-2 and ended Wheeland's day on the mound.

Once again the Cowboys answered in the bottom of the inning, getting a pair of runs on a single by Wes Jones to go up 4-2.

OSU added runs in three of the next four innings, including a four-run rally in the seventh to put the game away.

Along with Womack, Jones and Green each had multiple-RBI efforts as both players finished with two.

OSU will look for the series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.
