"Camp Bandage" Promotes Safety Awareness

A nationally recognized safety program is bringing safety awareness and education to Broken Arrow and the surrounding communities.

It's called Camp Bandage.  Broken Arrow Police, Fire Department, The Red Cross and Tulsa LifeFlight all take part in this free community event.

The event educates young children and families about how to prevent accidents and what to do in case of an emergency.

Organizers say it's a way to introduce kids to emergency responders so they won't be worried when they have to talk to a police officer or are helped by a firefighter.

BAPD walked participants through various emergency situations, including a staged car accident to point out the importance of what to do.

Each of the emergency simulations will also demonstrate a step-by-step approach of how to care for victims until help arrives.

"Camp Bandage" started in the 1980s and has been going on every year since.  It is free and open to the public.
