Staggs Leads Tulsa To NCAA Championships

Posted: Updated:

Former Jenks standout Colton Staggs had an interesting route to end up at the University of Tulsa.  Following his win in the Men's State Amateur tournament, Staggs signed up to play golf at Oklahoma State University.

But he didn't quite fit in at OSU, and decided to come home and play for Coach Brogden and the Golden Hurricane.

Now, as a sophomore, he's helped guide TU to the NCAA Championships, which begin on Tuesday in California.

Sure, the Golden Hurricane are long-shots - they are the 30th seed out of 30 teams in the field - but they get a shot to play for it all.  That's more than can be said for the Cowboys, who failed to make the Championships for the first time in the program's history.

Even though they are underdogs, Staggs feels this TU team can compete with anyone - because they've finally started playing as a true team, not individuals.

A win for Tulsa would be its first Men's Golf NCAA Championship.
