Mayes County, OK -

A man is dead following a truck accident early Saturday morning.

44-year-old Richard Phillips of Salina was driving a 1983 Chevrolet pickup northbound on a County Road when he ran off the road at a curve and traveled 55 feet before hitting a tree head-on, according to an OHP Troop L report.

The accident happened just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday, one mile north of Salina.

Phillips was pronounced dead on the scene due to massive head and torso injuries.

He was reportedly pinned inside the wrecked truck over two hours before the Salina Fire Department freed him with the Jaws of Life.

The OHP report indicated that Phillips was not wearing a seatbelt and that airbags were not installed in that model.
