Marion, IN -
The Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field team are national champions.
The Lady Bison -- who had finished runner-up in each of the last three NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships -- captured the team's first outdoor title Saturday in Marion, Indiana.
In all, OBU took first in seven events, including the 100 meters (Jura Levy), 200 meters (Levy), 400 meters (Verone Chambers), 400m hurdles (Nikita Tracey), and swept the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
"We won all three relays and we've never done that before," said OBU Coach Ford Mastin. "It's amazing it took this much work to do it. The competition was tough. They all worked so hard and everyone contributed. It's fun to work hard and actually get what you worked for."
Levy's 100 meters time of 11.35 seconds established a new NAIA Meet record as well.
Mastin also took home the NAIA Coach of the Year award.
