Summertime is usually time for teenagers to wake up late and hang out by the pool. But one local teen has decided to use his summer vacation to help others.
14 year old Matt Benjamin is organizing a run to raise awareness for local foster and adoption needs as well as raising awareness for the estimated 210 million orphans worldwide.
Benjamin's passion to help orphans developed after he went on a two-week mission trip to Uganda in the summer of 2010.
Last year, Matt ran a half marathon and raised $31,000 to build an orphan home in Uganda. This year, he hopes to get even more people involved by organizing the first annual Orphan Run.
The first annual Orphan Run will take place Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Church at Battle Creek (3025 N. Aspen Ave., Broken Arrow). The 5K race will being at 7:30 A.M.and the 1 mile fun run will begin at 8:00 A.M.
