Frazier Solid In Losing Effort

Posted: Updated:

The Tulsa Drillers had a serious case of deja vu on Wednesday night at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.  It was the second time in six days that they had matched up against right hander Justin Grimm of the RoughRiders.

It was also the second time that Grimm had completely dominated the Driller hitters.  The University of Georgia product started against Tulsa on May 24that ONEOK Field and threw 7 strong innings, giving up 6 hits while striking out 6.  He did not allow a run and picked up his 7thvictory of the season.

Wednesday night was a virtual replay of the game on the 24th as Grimm once again allowed 6 hits and struck out 6 Tulsa batters. This time around he only threw 6 innings but it was more than enough to secure his 8th win of 2012.

Frisco scored to take the early lead in the bottom of the third inning after a fielding error by Kent Matthes allowed Jarred Prince to reach base.  Jose Felix followed that up with a single that set up a sacrifice bunt by Engel Beltre.  A sacrifice fly off the bat of Leury Garcia was deep enough in left field to bring home Prince and put the Riders on the board.

The rest of the scoring in the ballgame came in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Frisco standout Jurickson Profar drew a 2-out walk and then scored on a double by Mike Olt.  Back to back hits by Chris McGuiness and Alex Buchholz led to 2 more Rider runs and put the game out of reach at 4-0.

Tulsa starter Parker Frazier pitched well but made a couple mistakes that cost him and led to his 6th loss of the season.  His final pitching line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

The Drillers had multiple base runners in the 2nd, 3rd and 5thinnings but could not come up with the big hit to get on the scoreboard.  Kiel Roling was the only Tulsa player with more than 1 hit.

The two teams will match up in game two of their three game set on Thursday night in Frisco.  Nick Schmidt (2-2, 2.95 ERA) will attempt to get the Drillers back on track against Chad Bell (0-0, 0.36 ERA).  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.

NOTES: Coty Woods pitched a scoreless eighth inning to continue his streak of 22.2 innings without allowing an earned run...Jurickson Profar extended his streak of consecutive games of reaching base safely to 46 games....NW Arkansas lost in extra innings in Midland to keep Tulsa's first place lead in the TL North division at 3 games.
