Truck Hits Utility Pole After Driving in People's Yards

North Tulsa -

A man driving a truck in reverse hit a utility pole Saturday morning.

Police responded to a call just after 11:40 a.m. Saturday in the 5900 block of East Marshall Street.

Residents of the neighborhood told Tulsa's Channel 8's crew at the scene that the driver of the white Chevy extended cab had been driving in people's yards and doing doughnuts in the neighborhood since 8:30 a.m.

Performing a doughnut entails rotating one end of the vehicle around the opposite set of wheels, creating a circular skid-mark pattern of rubber on a roadway.

The driver reportedly switched his truck into reverse at 60 miles per hour and hit the utility pole.

Witnesses said residents held the driver down until police arrived.

"He tore up a house two houses down from my house across the street, the yard," neighborhood resident Samantha Etter. "Just driving erratically, crazy, speeding like crazy."

"And my buddies kind of kept him there," said neighborhood resident Ben McClarrinon. "They was just trying to keep him in place until the cops got here."

AEP/PSO was on scene to repair the pole.

The motive for the driver's actions was unknown.
