Golden Eagles Fall Short In 9th Inning Rally

WACO, Texas (AP) -

Duncan McAlpine homered and drove in five runs as Dallas Baptist got past Oral Roberts 11-8 on Saturday night in the Waco Regional.

Dallas Baptist (41-17) banged out 12 hits off three Oral Roberts (38-24) pitchers in the first five innings to take what seemed like a commanding 10-3 lead.

The Golden Eagles made it interesting, scoring three in the third off DBU starter Mike Torrence and adding three more in the fifth before Aaron Gilbreath (4-3) threw 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Oral Roberts brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but closer Stuart Prudenz struck out Bennett Pickar to end the game.

McAlpine delivered a two-run single in the second, greeted reliever Alec Smith with a two-run homer in the third and drove in another run with a single in the fifth. Boomer Collins and Ryan Behmanesh also homered.
