The rainfall that hit Tulsa and surrounding counties Sunday night caused three rail cars to de-rail Monday morning near the Port of Catoosa.
The cars were loaded with wheat, and overturned as they were switching tracks. Excess water on the ground had made the track soft and slippery, and caused the cars to de-rail during the switch.
Port of Catoosa authorities say this is a rare and isolated incident. The railway runs about 1000 rail cars a month over 20 miles of track and accidents like this one are uncommon.
No injuries occurred, and no hazardous materials were spilled during the incident.
