Having stepped down as mayor, he was now seated at the far end of the table. But despite no longer being in the center chair, he was certainly the center of attention.
"Sir, you need to resign your position," said one woman.
They spoke with a calm and cutting determination.
"He has become the poster child for underhanded politics in this city," said Gene Evans.
His resignation as mayor, not enough for many in the anti-casino contingent.
"If you can be dishonest with us under the title of mayor, what's to stop you from being dishonest with us under the title of city council?" said Jared Cawley.
Questions, relentless in their directness.
"And always we will ask, what is he up to now? What underhanded back door scheme is he planning now?" said one woman.
The lobby for resignation broken only once by the sole speaker in support of Mike Lester.
"I am afraid for the direction this city will take if you let this group continue their bullying and let them persuade you to step down," said Mike Bergman, a casino supporter who thinks Lester should stay on the council
"I don't think it was worthy of you stepping down as our mayor, and I definitely think you should continue with your service and dedication to the people of broken arrow as councilor," he said.
A brief reprieve from an onslaught of please resign.
Mr. Lester had no comment.
