Owasso -
Two children have died within the past week after drowning in swimming pools and a third is in critical condition following another incident Wednesday, causing officials to stress the importance of pool safety.
The latest incident happened Wednesday in Owasso, where police tell Tulsa's Channel 8 a young girl was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in very critical condition after being found in a neighborhood pool in the Lake Valley neighborhood near 106th Street North and 145th East Avenue.
It comes a day after a four-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool at his home in Wagoner and just a week after a five-year-old boy drowned after being pulled from a pool at an apartment complex in Tulsa.
Owasso Fire Chief Chris Garrett says parents should keep a close watch on their children at all times and that they should make their swimming pools as safe as possible, including the use of a fence around the pool, door alarms and other safety features.
There is a website dedicated to pool safety that people can learn more from. It's called poolsafely.gov.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, children younger than five years old make up nearly 75-percent of all child drowning fatalities.
