Norman -
A man has been arrested after investigators say he tried to hire a jail inmate to kill both his ex-girlfriend and her male friend.
It's happening in McClain County, where the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 28-year-old Cody Sweetman offered the inmate one-thousand dollars to kill his ex-girlfriend's male friend.
Agents say the inmate declined, but said he knew someone in Oklahoma City who might be interested. That inmate then notified sheriff's officials, who in turn called the OSBI to assist.
An OSBI agent and the inmate called Sweetman to ask if he still wanted to hire someone, and Sweetman allegedly said yes. When he was contacted a day later, Sweetman arranged to meet on Monday, June fourth, to discuss the job.
The OSBI says Sweetman met with the agent and agreed to pay 500 dollars up front and 500 dollars when the job was done. During the conversation, Sweetman asked that his ex-girlfriend also be murdered and went further, asking that both be shot in the head and that his ex-girlfriend be shot first in front of her friend so that "he could feel some of the suspect's pain."
The "hit man" said the price would increase to $1,500 and Sweetman later handed him 230 dollars and a receipt handwritten on a napkin. He informed the agent where to find the victims and the agent told him the killings would happen on Tuesday night.
At about 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, the undercover agent met Sweetman outside a convenience store in Norman and that's when OSBI agents arrested Sweetman, who was booked into the McClain County Jail on two counts of solicitation of murder.
Court records show Sweetman was also charged with stalking last week.
