The Oklahoma Sooners softball team was looking for their second national championship Wednesday night with a win in game 3 of the WCWS championship series. But Alabama rallies to win 5-4 to win their first national title.
Oklahoma took a 3-0 lead on a couple of home runs. Keilani Ricketts hit one out in the 2nd to give OU a 1-0 lead. Then in the 3rd, Lauren Chamberlain's 2-run blast put the Sooners on top 3-0.
The start of the game was delayed for almost three hours because of rainy weather in Oklahoma City. The wet conditions seemed to start to affect the Sooners in the fourth. Keilani Ricketts threw four wild pitches and Alabama scored four runs to take the lead 4-3 lead.
The Crimson Tide added another run in the fifth. Oklahoma pulled to within one with a home run in the bottom of the 7th.
But that was as close as they would get.
Alabama rallied in the series after losing the first game 4-1 on Monday. Bama won game two on Tuesday 8-6 and then Wednesday night 5-4.
Alabama is the first SEC team to win the Women's College World Series.
