With more heat and humidity in the weather forecast, it's time to start protecting ourselves from dehydration.
Especially those who are doing a lot of work or exercise in the heat.
Clint Howard of Tulsa Fitness Systems says drinking enough water needs to become a daily habit.
He says many studies show that most people
are chronically dehydrated.
The key is to never get thirsty.
Howard recommends drinking 8 to 10 ounces of water before exercising.
Then drink at regular intervals during your workout.
If you lose weight while exercising, drink 16 ounces of water for every lost pound.
If you don't keep up with your fluid needs during exercise, your heat rate and body core temperature will increase.
While at the same time you heart and your muscles become less efficient.
Howard says when your heart is working properly it can lead to heat exhaustion and stroke.
He also says that when working out more than 60 to 90 minutes go with a sports drink to replace any lost electrolytes.
