Sand Springs, OK -
A man surrendered himself after a stand-off with police near Wal-Mart in Sand Springs Thursday afternoon.
Sand Springs Police responded to a call of shots fired at Wal-Mart around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
An officer told Tulsa's Channel 8's crew on the scene that they were trying to apprehend a man with a gun down the road from Wal-Mart on East Morrow Road.
According to Sand Springs Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter, the man fired his weapon a couple of times into the air.
"He was taken into custody without incident," said Carter, "so we're happy with the outcome."
Police said it was a 27-year-old white male.
"We don't believe he fired at anybody," Carter added. "We're treating this right now as a mental health incident, not as a criminal act."
