Grove Motorcyclist Dies in Delaware County Collision

A man is dead following a collision Saturday afternoon.

73-year-old William Blackford of Grove was driving a 2005 Honda motorcycle on State Highway 10 when he was struck by a 2005 Ford pickup that made a left turn in front of him—according to an OHP Troop L report.

The accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday just east of the Grove city limits.

According to the OHP report, Blackford was thrown 55 feet from the point of impact.

Blackford was taken to Eaglemed to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, where he was pronounced dead due to head, torso, and leg injuries.

67-year-old Phillip Fick of Grove, the driver of the Ford pickup, was taken by Jay EMS to Grove Integris Hospital in Joplin, where he was treated and released with torso injuries.

His passenger, 66-year-old Charles Cox of Grove, was also taken by Jay EMS to Grove Integris Hospital in Joplin, where he was treated and released with torso injuries.

The OHP trooper who investigated believed Blackford had made an improper turn in front of oncoming traffic.
