Plane Was Flying Through Severe Weather When It Crashed, Says NTSB

The preliminary report on a plane crash that killed an Oklahoma businessman says the aircraft was flying through severe weather when it went down May 31st in eastern Mississippi.

The crash happened about 80 miles south of Tupelo, killing E.R. "Tracy" Shirley III of Newcastle. Shirley was vice president and chief financial officer of Harrison Gypsum Co. of Norman.

According to WTVA in Tupelo, the NTSB says Shirley was piloting the plane and attempted to fly through severe weather when it crashed.

Shirley was the only person on board.

The plane was on its way from Clearwater, Florida to Norman.
