ORU's Walton Takes Job As Pitching Coach at OSU

Posted: Updated:

Many had speculated ORU's Rob Walton as a candidate for the head coaching job at Oklahoma State. Well, he's joined the staff, but not as head coach, but pitching coach.

The move was announced Monday afternoon. Walton will join new OSU head coach Josh Holliday's staff after spending the past 14 seasons helping build the program at Oral Roberts, including nine seasons as head coach.

Oral Roberts won conference championships in each of his years at the school, including this season's 15th consecutive.

"We're really excited to bring someone of Rob's caliber to the program," Holliday says. "He possesses the talents and character traits that identify our mission to develop and groom our players in an environment where teaching, discipline, passion, the ability to develop a person in all phases of their life, on the field and off, are the focus, as is the commitment to building a championship team."

"I've known Josh for a long time," said Walton. "He has a passion for OSU baseball and so do I, and so we're going to team up and do the best job that we can do to put the program back where it needs to be."

Walton returns to his alma mater, where he pitched from 1983 to 1986, going 20-and-3 with a 3.74 earned run average. He led OSU in wins as a senior, going 13-and-2 with a 3.20 ERA and nine complete games.

Walton also served as coach of the U.S. national team in 2008.
