Congressman John Sullivan and Jim Bridenstine, candidates for District One Congressional seat, attended a forum put on by the Republican Women's Club of Tulsa County. The two candidates answered questions written by attendants for about an hour. Giving a five minute speech about themselves and then getting a minute each to answer about fifteen questions. However, they were not allowed to debate back and forth. Even without being about to debate voting records are always a hot topic.
Bridenstine says "We have a congressman that votes for bailouts and stimulus packages and government take over he votes for tax these are not conservative principles and I am running on his record of big government spending he has been a spending enabler and I am running against that."
Representative Sullivan admits he has missed some votes in the past for alcohol treatment and deaths in the family but he wants others to look at the other candidates voting record as well.
"We got to look at his record he has only been a registered voter since July of 2010 and he has only voted 33 percent of the elections he didn't even vote for a republican candidate to take on Barack Obama he didn't this will be the first congressional in the history of his life in Oklahoma," Sullivan said.
They also both have different views on what they will bring to the office and what important matters are facing the United States.
"I will fight everyday for the energy jobs we have in this state. We have 322 thousand people in this state. I am on an energy and commerce committee, on the leadership team, I am going to fight everyday to make sure we protect those jobs," says Rep. Sullivan.
"The top thing is we have to get our debt under control. We need a balance budget amendment. We have to get our national security back on track. It starts with getting our budget under control," says Bridenstine.
Both candidates did tell KTUL.com they are glad they got the chance to get the issues out today. This is the last District One forum before the primary election which is June 26th.
