On Tuesday, a ribbon cutting marked the completion of State Highway 412-P near Inola.
The highway provides access for Johnston's Port 33, which is a vital link for barge shipments on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.
The $7.8 million project constructed a nearly 1.5 mile two-lane highway with shoulders.
The previous alignment was a narrow two-lane roadway without shoulders and also contained two deficient bridges which could no longer accommodate current traffic demands.
Speakers included U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, U.S. Rep. John Sullivan and Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation Gary Ridley.
