American Airlines Celebrates Flag Day

Thursday was the 235th anniversary of Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag of our nation.

Members of the American Airlines Veteran Military Employee Resource Group of Tulsa (VMERG) hosted the U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mohawk Park, Shelter 2.

This ceremony's program featured posting of colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of the National Anthem, and a ceremony of the flags—which was followed by a ceremonial burning of the flags.

Also during the ceremony, VMERG members taught attendees how to properly dispose of their old U.S. flags and shared history about our nation's banner.

American Airlines encouraged everyone to come out and enjoy Flag Day!

On Sunday night a tornado went through the town of Carney. It destroyed or damaged about 40 homes. When you look out at the area there are homes in every direction that show some kind of damage. Some of the families that have lived there for 17 years and have never been through anything like this. They didn't even have enough time to get their family in the shelter.
