It's been two years since the Admiral Twin went up in flames and it took just minutes to bring down the iconic structure. But tonight, the historic drive-in theater is back open for business. It's not quite finished yet but the movie screens were ready so the owners decided to re-open.
It was a packed house with cars as far as you could see. and they even had to turn people away because they met capacity. Everyone out there was excited for the night and ready to be apart of the opening.
"It's the first night and I'm excited," says Connie White, Claremore resident.
"I head it was the grand opening and it seemed like a pretty big deal," says Alex Elifrits, first time to the Admiral Twin.
These people waited for the gates to open and the tickets to be sold and the fact that this place is an icon is what is packing these people in.
"I think that structure was really, I said it a lot, but it was an icon of the city," says Co-Owner, Blake Smith.
All ages came out for the opening, you have the kids where it is their first movie and the fans that have been coming for years. But the best part is parents getting to share part of their past with their kids. Elifrits came with his dad and says he is glad they got a good seat.
"I like the atmosphere. Everyone is playing their music and it's a nice day out. People are just playing the Frisbees and soccer over there," says Elifrits.
The movie sound still comes through your radio and there are really no etiquette rules.
"That's the great thing about going to the drive-in there is no etiquette. It's just anything goes respect other people around you," says Smith.
Smith says he has seen it all kids in pajamas and couple dressed to the nines but the family part is why most people come out.
"A lot of family. We would just hang out. We didn't have to be quiet like in the movie theater kids can play just lots of fun," says White.
The Admiral Twin is open seven days a week during the summer. Gates open at 7 P.M. and the movies start at dark.
