Parts of the new Tulsa trash plan are going into affect three months early. The TARE board voted to start the once a week service. The TARE board was told by the contractor right now that many of their haulers were moving on and they couldn't keep up with the demand for the next three months. So the changes go into affect July 1.
The first big change, it's going to once a week pick up. If you are on east side of town it's the first part of the week. The area of Tulsa that already had once week a service will stay on Wednesday and the west to south part of town will be the end of the week.
You will be able to leave twelve bags of trash outside the can each week. But another big change is that the recycling will not happen until the middle of July. The city is suspending the current recycling system until people their new recycling carts July 16 through September 23. There are still two things that the TARE board needs the city council to decide.
"We have asked the City Council to reduce your trash rates. To reflect the Northwest quadrant once a week rate and the council will be asked to give a bag ordinance. So, you will bag your refuse to make it easier to pick up out of the new carts once they are deployed," says TARE board chairwoman, Cheryl Cohenour
Those reductions in price would bring the bill each month to $10.52. Which is what the Northwest part of the city already pays. Even though these changes are coming early the TARE board thinks this will help everyone out.
"This way we guarantee that your trash will be picked up and there will be as little change in your normal day to day lives as possible and it will probably segway into the new system a lot easier," says Cohenour.
