Catoosa, OK -

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation will grant the Port of Catoosa $6.4 million.

The money will go towards rehabilitating the port's main dock.  The project will double the capacity for more barges and make way for more containers.

The existing transit shed is obsolete and will be torn down to make way for a new concrete dock surface.  The overhead crane will be updated, and there will be a second crane on the expanded dock.

The grant will cover about half the project's total cost.  Funding is primarily through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program.

The Port of Catoosa is an important part of Oklahoma's economy, bringing in $1.3 million of commerce to the state each day.
